Gary was saved at the age of 13 in Independence, Missouri, and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1962. It was through good preaching and a lot of exposure to guest missionaries in the church which he attended that he was first encouraged to seek a career in cross-cultural ministry. He attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri, where he both met his wife Judy and felt called to the mission field of Peru. They married and were approved as missionaries to Peru in September of 1971. After serving in Peru in a church planting ministry for 25 years, they began to see the spiritual needs in Caracas, Venezuela, where their daughter and son-in-law, Matt & Beth Sanders served. Desiring to see the same blessing in Caracas that they had witnessed in Lima, they made a move to Caracas in April 2000. In 2009, the Queens left Venezuela to prepare to minister as the Director of Church Planting Ministries at la Universidad Cristiana de las Americas in Monterrey, Mexico.
