Tri-City Youth Ministry

The primary goal of our youth ministry is to make disciples and teach them to observe all that Jesus commanded (Matt 28:18-20). We necessarily focus on the Scripture, teaching teens their desperate need for God’s free gift of eternal salvation through Jesus Christ (Rom 6:23) and His plan to change them to reflect the glory of His Son (Eph 1:12). We do this both formally and informally, through planned events and one-on-one interactions. Regular events in our ministry include Sunday Night Youth Meeting (a time for teaching and preaching), Sunday Night After Church SNAC Attacks (a time for food and fellowship), Saturday Activities (a time for fun, outreach and Bible study). Annual events include Summer Teen Camp and Mission Trips. We desire to support the efforts of godly parents to train up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Eph 6:4)

Exodus 20:1-3 - Saturday, February 04, 2012

Exodus 20:1-3 And God spake all these words, saying, 2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Verse three contains the first of the famous Ten Commandments which the Lord gave to Israel. God prefaced the commands by saying, "I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage." Their obedience was based upon two realities, 1) Who God was and 2) what He  had done.

Let's consider what this meant for Israel. He said first, "I am the Lord thy God." They were to obey Him because He was "the Lord", the perfect, holy, all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present, eternal, self-exist Creator. Not only this, but He was "[their] God"; they had a special relationship with Him as a people.

Secondly, He said, I "brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage." Israel was to obey because of all that God had done for them. They had been helplessly in bondage to Pharaoh as slaves. God delivered them by sending mighty plagues against Egypt, by opening the waters of the sea for their escape, by crushing the king and his chariots, and by providing food for them in the wilderness. They owed Him everything.

Now let's consider ourselves. We must remember that the reason for our obedience rests on the same realities. We must obey God because of Who He is and what He has done for us. Consider that God has not changed. He is the same "yesterday, today, and forever." He is still the infinite, holy, one true God and He is our Father by personal relationship through His Son Jesus Christ. Consider what He has done for us. He left heaven to become a lowly man and die in our place as a criminal to pay our sin penalty before God. He rose from the grave to give us new life with Him forever. He's preparing a place for us and will soon come again.

Jesus Christ has every right to our obedience. He made us and he freed us from the bondage of sin forever.

So . . . are you putting any other "gods" . . . before HIM? Thou shalt not.
